Growing Communities

Growing Communities is a social enterprise providing a real alternative to the current damaging food system. The Old Fire Station is a collection point for our community-led fruit and veg box scheme, which provides a weekly selection of delicious, fresh organic produce from small-scale local farms. Veg bags start at under £8 a week. They also contain Hackney Salad, grown on our local market gardens and Patchwork Farm – we welcome volunteers to help grow and harvest it. We also run Stoke Newington Farmers’ Market, every Saturday at St Paul’s Church on Stoke Newington High Street.

Fire Station Community Nursery

The Fire Station Community Nursery was established in 1982 in the Old Fire Station building in Stoke Newington in Hackney, and joined the LEYF family of nurseries in 2014. We have 45 places for children from 13 weeks to five years. We’ve built strong partnerships with the local community so we can offer the children well-rounded care and education so they have the best start in life. We celebrate diversity, welcoming a cross-section of the community into our nursery family.
